Industry Training

First Polymer Training Skillnet is part of Polymer Technology Ireland(Ibec) and provides technical training on its behalf to the plastics industry in Ireland. FPT has a dedicated training centre in Athlone and provide a regular calendar of programmes. Training can also be provided on site at a company's request. First Polymer Training Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd, funded from the National Training fund through the Department of Education and Skills.

Polymer processing technologist apprenticeship

Boost your business with apprenticeships. Developed by Polymer Technology Ireland, an Ibec network, along with a strong industry consortium, First Polymer Training and Athlone Institute of Technology as the lead provider this polymer apprenticeship is suitable for any company producing polymer technologies/plastic products.

IT Sligo

Certificate in Polymer Technology (Level 6)

This is a a one year part-time programme delivered primarily online with some practicals each semester in Athlone and Sligo. Student fees may be subsidised by your employer with First Polymer Training Skillnet.

Bachelor of Engineering in Polymer Processing (Level 7)

This is a two year part-time programme delivered primarily online with some practicals each semester in Athlone and Sligo. Student fees may be subsidised by your employer with First Polymer Training Skillnet.

Certificate in Polymer Processing (Level 7)

This is a part-time programme available in September 2015 free to eligible jobseekers through the Springboard initiative.


Athlone Institute of Technology

Certificate in Polymer Technology for Medical Devices (Level 6)

This is a part-time programme available in September 2015 free to eligible jobseekers under the Springboard initiative.

Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical and Polymer Engineering (Level 8)

This is a full-time four year degree programme. Application can be made through the CAO.

Master of Science in Applied Polymer Technology (Level 9)

This is a one year full-time post graduate programme.
